What is the Solo Crisis League?

The Solo Crisis League takes the win/lose condition of the DC Deck-Building Game and its various Crisis expansions and asks "how well did you win" or "how badly did you lose" by comparing your results against people playing the same set-up.  We use measurable stats like the number of cards left in the Main Deck, the cost of defeated Super-Villains, and Weaknesses in your own deck. Your score is calculate and released at the end of each Round.  5 Rounds makes a Season and each Season brings new challenges!

Season Rules

  • Superhero/Villain selection will be limited to just non-Crisis characters. You will not have to do anything special for this other than adhere to the Heroic Sacrifice Pool.
  • New main deck cards + unused Crisis cards will be shuffled into the top half of the main deck, the exact number of which can be found in the round description under Additional Reminders.
  • When a Crisis card is revealed from the top of the main deck, add it to the current crisis and reveal the next card in its place.  There is no limit on how many crisis cards can be in play.  The Super-Villain can not be defeated until no crisis cards are in play.  Crisis cards can not be gained or destroyed from the main deck by the effect of another card.  Instead, act as if they were "revealed" and use the next card in the main deck to finish the effect of your played card/first-appearance attack.

Season Rules

  • Crossover Packs will be used with each Base + Crisis combo.  Some of these will come with special rules that will be explained in their Round info.  Shuffle both the Crisis main deck cards and the Crossover Pack cards into the top half of the main deck.
  • With all of the extra cards in play, the Crisis Stack and Super-Villain Stack will be adjusted to help increase the threat even though the larger Main Deck gives you more time.  The numbers will be given with each Round info as well as the layout of the Super-Villain stack.
  • Leave the starter Crisis in play.  What this means is that after you beat the starter Crisis, remove it from the Crisis Stack, but leave it in play.  You can now ignore the "To Beat" text, but the "Ongoing" text remains in effect.

Teamwork Stack

(Different than Round 5) In order to use Crossover 5's Teamwork ability we'll be using a "Teamwork Stack".  This stack starts with 5 Punches and 5 Vulnerabilities.

  • Whenever you buy or gain a Villain from the Line-Up shuffle a Weakness into the Teamwork Stack.
  • Whenever you defeat a Super-Villain, shuffle a random Destroyed card into the Teamwork Stack.
  • When you use the Teamwork ability, discard the used card.
  • If the Teamwork Stack runs out, simply shuffled the discarded Teamwork cards to make a new stack.  To understand how the Teamwork ability works, see the Crossover 5 rule card.

Teamwork Stack

(Different than Round 1) In order to use Crossover 5's Teamwork ability we'll be using a "Teamwork Stack".  This stack starts with 7 Punches and 3 Vulnerabilities.

Whenever you...

  • Buy or gain a Villain from the Line-Up - add a destroyed card to the Teamwork discard pile.
  • Beat a Crisis - destroy a card in the Teamwork discard pile.
  • Defeat a Super-Villain - add a weakness to the Teamwork discard pile

When you use the Teamwork ability, discard the used card to the Teamwork discard pile. If the Teamwork Stack runs out, simply shuffled the discarded Teamwork cards to make a new stack.  To understand how the Teamwork ability works, see the Crossover 5 rule card.

Dark Nights Metal Sidekick Variant

Heroes: Start the game with Batman (DNM) under The Batman Who Laughs.  Create a Sidekick Stack consisting of the 5 Characters from the above list you did not start with this Round.  At no point can you control more than your Starting Hero and 1 Sidekick.

Weaknesses:  When you play two Weaknesses your turn ends.

  • If you have a Sidekick, your Sidekick becomes captured.  Return one Weakness to your discard pile and the other to the Weakness stack.
  • If you have no Sidekick, flip your Starting Hero over.  Return one Weakness to your discard pile and the other to the Weakness stack.
  • If your hero is flipped over, both Weaknesses go to your discard pile.

Crisis:  When you beat a Crisis, add the top card of the Sidekick Stack under The Batman Who Laughs

Super-Villains:  When you defeat a Supervillain:

  • If your Starting Character was face down, flip it face up and gain 1 Weakness.
  • If your Starting Character was face up and you have no Sidekick, Rescue a Sidekick from The Batman Who Laughs and gain 1 Weakness.
  • If you have a Sidekick already, gain two Weakness cards unless you swap your Sidekick for one under The Batman Who Laughs.

The Hero Stack

This mode follows most of the Dark nights Metal rules with the following exceptions.  When you rescue a Character from the Batman Who Laughs place them at the bottom of the "Hero Stack"/Your Hero.  You can have any number of characters under your hero.  This is the "Hero Stack". At the beginning of each turn, put your hero at the bottom of this "Hero Stack".  The revealed character is your hero for this turn.  If you play 2 weaknesses, your current Hero becomes captured.  If a Crisis or Super-Villain affects your Hero, it affects the whole stack.

(Example: Heroic Sacrifice - Your whole Hero Stack would be destroyed  and your new hero  would be drawn from the Heroic Sacrifice pool.)

Third Wheel

This mode follows most of the Dark nights Metal rules with the following exceptions.  When you rescue a Character from the Batman Who Laughs they become a third character who both Player 1 and Player 2 benefit from.  Each time you Rescue a character either rescue a character for a player who has no hero or replace your third character.  You must do one of these options.

Sidekick

This mode follows most of the Dark nights Metal rules with the following exceptions:

  • When you rescue a Character from the Batman Who Laughs they become your sidekick.  If you already have a sidekick, replace it.
  • After you rescue a character, capture a character next to The Batman Who Laughs.
  • If you were to lose your hero, lose your sidekick first, unless you do not have a sidekick.

Results

Season Rules

  • Season 8 introduce the Confrontations and Rivals sets to the Solo Crisis League.  Please familiarize yourself with the Confrontations specific rules listed within the Confrontations/Rivals rule books (Announce at beginning of turn, can't buy cards that turn, etc.)

Confrontations

  • You may only defeat Super-Villains during Confrontations.  All Confrontation specific rules from the rule book apply.
  • You may not defeat a Villain while there are Block cards in the Line-Up.  You may buy Block Cards from the Line-Up during a Confrontation, but they are destroyed instead of going to your discard pile.
  • If your confrontation is successful, you may level up your hero with remaining unspent power.
  • If your confrontation fails, your character drops 1 level and the Super-Villain makes its First Appearance Attack against you at the beginning of next turn.  If the Super-Villain has no attack, gain a weakness and put it on top of your deck.

Leveling Your Character

  • You will play each game with a stack of all 3 levels of your chosen hero/villain.
  • When you defeat a Super-Villain during a Confrontation, you may level up your hero with remaining unused power.

(Example: If Impossible Mode Ra's Al Ghul is on top of the Super-Villain stack, you would need to pay at least 18 Power in one Confrontation in order to beat Ra's al Ghul and level up your hero.)

Homeworld Stacks

  • Each Attempt consists of a Super Hero and a Super-Villain.  Your chosen character benefits from the Stack Ongoing Ability of their Homeworld.
  • Homeworlds may be Conquered/Upgraded during your turn by paying their cost.  You may discard Protectors to reduce the cost of their Opposing Homeworld.
  • When a Homeworld is conquered, its Retaliation triggers but it does not affect members of that Homeworld (example: a Super Hero "conquering" New Genesis triggers its Retaliation, but its retaliation only affects Super-Villains as described on card text.)  This way, you may "Upgrade" your Homeworld and improve its Stack Ongoing ability.
  • The final opposing Homeworld must be defeated prior to defeating the final Super-Villain.

Challenge Cards and Mastermind Plots

  • The Crisis Stack will consist of Crisis Cards as well as Challenges and Mastermind Plots from Crossover 4.  Challenges can be found at specific points in the Crisis Stack, in the order listed in the Crisis Stack directions above.
  • Challenge Cards
    -The first game should consist of 3 random Challenge Level 1-3 cards.  Your second attempt should use the Challenge Level 1-3 cards that were NOT used in Attempt #1, and your third attempt should be 3 random Challenge cards again.
    - If the current Challenge Card requires a villain contribution, you may pay 2 Power for the ability to purchase a qualifying villain from the destroyed pile.  This can be paid multiple times per turn to buy multiple villains.  You must still pay the cost of the villain after paying the 2 Power. You cannot buy cards that could not be contributed to the Challenge.
  • Mastermind Plots
    - Each game should have a random Mastermind Plot as the final card in the Crisis Stack.  This can be beat by paying the associated cost, but does not have to be beat to defeat the final Super-Villain.  "The Secret Mastermind Ongoing" ability is a Stack Ongoing Ability that will affect you.
  • The Nuclear Clock
    - There is no "Secret Mastermind". Cards under The Nuclear Clock are destroyed.

Injustice Content

Character Health

  • Whenever you fail to defend against a villain's attack, take damage equal to the cost of that villain.
  • If your health ever drops to 0, instead of gaining a KO'd Token, shuffle a weakness into your deck.

Dealing Damage

  • Whenever you would "Deal damage to a target foe", place 1 VP token on up to X villains (X being the amount of damage dealt) starting with the highest cost villain and going down to the lowest.
  • Do not place more than 1VP on any villain for each attack.  (ex. if there are 3 villains in play and you deal 5 damage, each of the 3 villains gets one VP placed on it and no additional damage is done.)
  • Area Attacks deal 1 damage to all villains in play.
  • Super-Villains cannot take damage while there is a Crisis in play.
  • Do not charge your meter for attacks.
  • Villains have their cost reduced by one for each VP placed on them to a minimum cost of 1.

  • Whenever you defeat a villain, charge your meter one space for each VP on that villain.

submit Results

Set-Up

(Unless contradicting with with Season / Round specifications)

Set-up will follow the Crisis Solo-Play rules printed in the CRISIS rule book(s). Use the proper number of Crisis cards and Impossible Mode Super-Villains as well as shuffling in the new Main Deck cards. Almost any solo-mode conflict can be answered with the CRISIS rule book and will also be noted in that Round's set-up description. You'll be completing 3 games during each round, each using a different Hero/Supervillain.

Hero Selection

The available Heroes/Villains will be announced in the Round set-up. For Seasons 1-4 You'll be able to choose 3 of the 6 randomly selected Heroes/Super-villains each Round  (1 for each attempt.)  For Seasons 5+ you'll select 1 Hero/Super-Villain form each of 3 sets. IF a Crisis makes you select a random new character, your random selection may be drawn from only the Base Game/Crisis set used that Round, being sure to follow the Crisis card's requirements. You will not be limited to the 6 pre-selected Heroes in this instance and are trusted to be honest with your random selection.

Reporting

The proper reporting page can be found in the Round info and should be filled out after the completion of each attempt. Meaning, I should receive 3 reports from you each Round. If you submit more than 3 reports, only the first 3 will be accepted. You'll have until end of day on the final day of each Round to get your third report in. If you complete less than 3 games, your data will be removed from the set and you'll be excluded from the ranking. This is the only fair way to stop people from taking advantage of having one really good game to base their score on.  Results of all reporting will be shared the following day, pending my availability.

Reporting Questions

  • Your Discord/League Username - Self-explanatory
  • Hero/Villain Used - The Hero/Villain you started this match with, even if a Crisis forced you to use another hero.
  • Win/Loss - Self-explanatory
  • Number of cards in Main Deck - Simply count the number of cards left in the Main Deck, as this is Crisis mode's timer.
  • Total cost of defeated Super-Villains - This is the printed cost of Super-Villains from the Super-Villain stack and extra Super-Villains brought out by Crisis cards. Disregard any "*" cost that many Super-Villains have when reporting here. Additionally, if you defeat the same Super-Villain more than once (due to Crisis cards or final Super-Villain) be sure to count it as many times as you defeated it.
  • Weakness Cards - Total number of Weakness cards you own at end of game.
  • Additional Stats - These question will not affect ranking, but rather are just for fun.
  • Comments - These questions are (usually) optional and are used to improve future rounds, determine user opinions.

Ranking

At the end of each Round, I'll release Round Rankings, Season Rankings, and Overall Rankings below the Round info. Even if you don't have every set/expansion you'll be able to enter for the rankings of the weeks you are able and work your way up each leaderboard.Rankings will be determined with the following weighting:

Rounds Completed > Win%  > Adjusted Main Deck Score > Adjusted Super-Villain Score > Weaknesses in Deck

Season X, Round Y is over.  Can I still enter?

Yes! Just follow the proper set-up info for the Season/Round you'd like to attempt and submit your results via the Late/Absent form. Your data will not change the official Round results, but it will affect Season and Overall rankings.

I made a mistake on my reporting form. Can I fix it?

No problem.  Simply re-submit the form with the correct info and call attention to the reason for the changes in the "Questions and Comments" section.

Do I shuffle the new Main Deck cards from the Crisis Expansion into the top half of the Main Deck or throughout the whole Main Deck?

The new Main Deck cards should be shuffled into the top half of the Main Deck with the following exceptions:

  • Original Game + Crisis 1
  • Heroes Unite + Crisis 2
  • Forever Evil + Crisis 3
  • Teen Titans + Crisis 4

With the above Base Game + Crisis Expansion combinations, the new Main Deck cards should be shuffled throughout the Main Deck.
